Jeopardy Reflection

Posted by daryl on November 29, 2007

1. What did I feel successful doing, during the process of the project? What am I proud of?
I felt successful in even being able to complete my article! There wasn’t a lot of information and I had trouble putting enough information together to form my article. I had to look up information in anything i could find: books, websites, encyclopedias, etc. I felt relieved and happy when I had the jeopardy questions done, because I had gathered enough info to complete everything. We also managed to complete the jeopardy game in one class by staying focused!

2. What new skills did I value learning?
I valued learning how to work the different search engines. For example, we learned how to use the workspaces in Britannica. I also learned how to work faster than usual: get a motivation (if it’s not done it’s homework ^^). I thought that the workspaces were very useful, because I was able to save all info I had gotten to be accessed later.

3. What was challenging during the process of completing the project? With what did I struggle?
I struggled a lot because I had gotten no information from SIRS. SIRS was very helpful to everyone, but it held no answers for me. I had some problems with my wikispace as well, because my words wouldn’t bold, but I needed bold to complete my article. I was able to overcome all these opsticles though, and I completed the project in the end!

4. How could I have improved my process so that I would have been more effective?
I think I could have improved by not wasting so much time on SIRS. I continued to pursue the SIRS database for information but came out empty-handed. I should have spent that time getting more information from Britannica. I also thought that I could have rephrased my jeopardy questions a bit to make them harder or easier depending on what the questions were worth. Overall, I think I did well on both the Jeopardy Game and the Wikispace!

To visit the Wikispace, visit this site: http://romanencyclopedia.wikispaces.com/. My article is the Major Event (Era) The Republic. Check it out!

What is the issue?

The issue is that about one million people were affected by floods all around Africa, and more than one hundred and fifty people were killed after a very long period of heavy rain. Hundreds of thousands of people were forced out of their homes with some towns and villages completely submerged underwater. Some villages and communities were also wiped off the map!

 Who is affected and how?

People who are affected include: The UN, because they are trying to help and are worrying of further damage the flood and heavy rain might cause, such as diseases like malaria. The one million people who are affected, because they have had to move homes, had their houses destroyed, had lost a family member, or has died. Sudan, because Sudan was hit by the worst of the flood, and dozens of people were killed there.

What would I do if I was directly involved?

If I was directly involved, I would send rescue squads by helicopter to save any trapped or helpless victims, and I would try to help them in any way possible. Then (after the flood is over), I would help them rebuild their homes and help them with supplies. I would also help anybody grieving for their family members by helping them pay for the funerals.*

*I would also need political power
